Global Networking

22/01/2008

Netting or networking at your local business breakfast is one thing. But one leading solicitor has taken it stage further.

While some law firm bosses have difficulty working a room, Stuart Popham, senior partner of Clifford Chance, has been working a whole planeload of top British business leaders - not to mention the Prime Minister - on the trade trip to China and India.

Clifford Chance, apparently, has high ambitions of 'proceeding in an easterly direction' and it is obviously going to help if Gordy is there to offer a little assistance. Stuart Popham will also have had a chance to schmooze with Richard Branson and, no doubt, get the latest low-down on Northern Rock.

By contrast, the new senior partner of another leading law firm likes to do his netting where there's a bit of serious music. Chris Saul of Slaughter and May likes to hang out at the Glastonbury Festival. Oh, how the legal world has changed - not so much a question of dusty briefs but muddy briefs.
