Crisis News Management - Hain-style
25/01/2008I've said it before and I'll say it again: crisis news management is all about protecting your reputation.
So why do politicians still get it so spectacularly wrong? If Peter Hain had resigned about two months ago he would have walked away with his reputation only a little tarnished. As it is, he has been left looking more dodgy than a second hand car salesman.
Down at the Slug and Bank Manager Peter's problems have been the subject of fierce debate. Some of the lads felt he had weathered the storm. But I always believed that he had had just enough support from the Prime Minister to make his position untenable. And, of course, if he'd had Gordon's 'full support' he'd have gone within days.
But we all feel so much sympathy for poor Peter. We all agree it's just so easy to lose track of £100,000 when you're working out your expenses. But every cloud has a silver lining: at a time of such big financial worries for the Government it's lucky to lose a Cabinet member whose numeracy skills are so limited.
